CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, S.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — A search for the four escaped inmates came up short on Wednesday, according to the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials say four inmates kicked down a steel door and escaped the Chesterfield County Detention Center late Monday night. Their disappearance wasn’t noticed until the next morning.

On Wednesday, deputies with the Chesterfield County and Darlington County Sheriff’s Offices were searching for a black male in the Lee Parks area, Colin King Road, Isaac Road and Highway 102 in the Patrick area after a tip about a man matching the description of one of the escaped inmates was seen walking down the road.

“The caller thought it was odd because this area is mostly dirt roads; people would be driving in a car,” said Sheriff Cambo Streater.

Streater says authorities sent up a SLED helicopter to circle the area using a flare system to pick up on body heat. Streater says the agents found nothing.

Authorities say they’ve used tracking dogs, drones, a helicopter, and about 20 deputies to search for this individual.

Streater says since he’s been in office since 2023, there have been six inmates to escape. He says his office is investigating those escapes.

Anyone with information on the inmates is asked to call the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office tip line at 843-623-0235.
