HENDERSON COUNTY, N.C. ( QUEEN CITY HOMETOWN ) — Main Street in Saluda, North Carolina is already the heart of town. “It’s nonstop, we’re just hearing stories all day,” said Alexis Cunningham.

But now, there are signs that show what that means. “Donations come like every 10 minutes,” said Susan Casey.

“They need people to talk to, they need someone to listen to and understand,” said Alexis.

When Hurricane Helene hit, a real estate office became a communications center, and an outdoor adventures business transformed into a food pantry.

“It’s pretty sad. If you stop and think about it- so it helps to have continual things to do,” said Susan, who was running the food pantry.

Both became places for those needing community. “I’m just helping out the community and that makes me feel a whole lot better,” said Alexis.

Some are handwritten, others printed out or painted, but you can’t miss the signs… of hope.
