GASTONIA, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — After a season using a generic name, the Gastonia Baseball Club is now the Ghost Peppers.

The independent baseball team made the announcement at CaroMont Health Park Wednesday night. Ghost Peppers was chosen from eight options that were showcased during home series throughout the 2024 season, including the official one.

This Gastonia school was battling the Storm Friday night while helping aid Helene victims in Buncombe County

The newly named team sent the following message:

“The votes are in, and we’re spicing things up! Say hello to the Gastonia Ghost Peppers! We can’t wait to ignite the season with a name that brings the heat.”

Ghost Peppers was chosen over the likes of the Galactic Dinos, ZomBees and Bolognia.

The new name comes after the first season under new owners Zawyer Sports and CEO Andy Kaufmann. Before changing hands, the team was known as the Gastonia Honey Hunters when they faced significant financial issues and lawsuits from the city.

The Ghost Peppers “What if” night was held Aug. 2-4, when the team said “there was no community hotter than Gastonia.” The logo was tweaked from then, with a spooky-looking red pepper surrounded by flames.

Ghost Peppers merchandise is already available for purchase.

The team was awarded the Promotion of the Year by the Atlantic League for the “What if” nights.
