CHESTER, S.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A date has been set for the trial of a Charlotte man charged in a fatal crash that killed a 7-year-old.

The trial of Jason Palmer will be held in Chester County the week of Oct. 28, before Judge Brian Gibbons. It involves the July 10, 2022, collision on Interstate 77 , when court documents show a family of four was hit by the defendant resulting in the death of a 7-year-old passenger and serious injury to the father.

Palmer is charged with reckless homicide, assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, possession of crack, and possession of marijuana.

An initial investigation revealed Palmer, now 37, was allegedly driving erratically and struck an SUV that was traveling in the same direction, sending the SUV off the roadway and into a tree, Highway Patrol and Richburg Fire and Rescue said following the incident.
