NEW YORK — The Mets weren't content to simply string together single after walk after single after double to plaster Twins pitching with a season-worst 15 runs. No, they had to subtract from the Twins as well. New York battered Twins pitching by cracking 17 hits, drawing seven walks...

NEW YORK — For the Mets, the eve of the trade deadline this season has brought hope and a far different mood than 2023. Last season, the uncertainty was palpable. Twins Mets Baseball
Pete Alonso homered to start a six-run fourth inning and the New York Mets blew out the Minnesota Twins 15-2, turning the opener of an interleague series between playoff contenders into a lopsided laugher. Jeff McNeil and Luis Torrens each drove in three runs for the Mets, who batted around twice in three innings. Every starter had at least one RBI besides newcomer Jesse Winker, who singled and scored in his first Mets start before getting lifted in the sixth. Winker was acquired from Washington in a trade finalized Sunday morning. Jose Quintana fell behind 1-0 after five pitches but kept Minnesota off the scoreboard after that, throwing six effective innings to win his second consecutive start.

Winker to the Mets, Adam to the Padres
The New York Mets acquired outfielder from the Washington Nationals last night in exchange for pitching prospect Tyler Stuart. Winker, 30, was signed by the Washington Nationals as a free agent this past offseason on a one year, $2 million deal. The lefthanded hitting corner outfielder was coming off a pair of bad seasons with the Mariners in 2022 and the Brewers in 2023, greatly diminishing his market this past offseason. He has bounced back with a strong 2024 campaign, slashing .257/.374/.419 in 379 plate appearances, and going 14 for 18 on stole base attempts after having stolen a total of three bases in his major league career prior to 2024. He was somebody who was talked about as a potential trade target for the Rangers.

Ryne Stanek didn’t plan to celebrate his birthday as member of Mets
It wasn’t how Ryne Stanek planned to celebrate his 33rd birthday. As he was getting ready for his game with the Mariners on Friday night against the White Sox in Chicago, news came down that he was being traded to the red-hot Mets. “It was pretty odd,” the hard-throwing right-hander said before Saturday’s 4-0 loss to the Braves, his first game with his new team. “I was not expecting to get traded on my birthday, but such is the life we live here.” It was a surprise, since it was a trade between two playoff contenders. Jesse Winker is eager to switch sides — from Citi Field villain to potential hero. He sure seems thrilled to be a Met and get to play for the fans who have booed him through the years. “Once I found out I was coming here I was extremely excited.
