The New York Mets acquired outfielder from the Washington Nationals last night in exchange for pitching prospect Tyler Stuart. Winker, 30, was signed by the Washington Nationals as a free agent this past offseason on a one year, $2 million deal. The lefthanded hitting corner outfielder was coming off a pair of bad seasons with the Mariners in 2022 and the Brewers in 2023, greatly diminishing his market this past offseason. He has bounced back with a strong 2024 campaign, slashing .257/.374/.419 in 379 plate appearances, and going 14 for 18 on stole base attempts after having stolen a total of three bases in his major league career prior to 2024. He was somebody who was talked about as a potential trade target for the Rangers.

During the final out of the inning, the right-hander fell to the ground on 3B Austin Riley’s pop-up but was able to walk off under his own power.
