BROOKLYN HEIGHTS — QUEENS NATIVE AND former Packer Collegiate Institute student Lauren Scruggs, 21, won the silver medal in the women’s individual foil fencing finals at the Paris Olympics Sunday, with the gold going to fellow Team USA member Lee Kiefer, 30, a veteran of the 2012, 2016 and 2024 Olympic games who also won gold in Tokyo three years ago. This is the first time two Americans have faced each other in the finals of the event. Scruggs, a Harvard student, was considered an underdog heading into the foil fencing competition and is ranked 11th in the world in her discipline. She will have the chance to add more medals to her count later this week in the team contests.
