Pete Alonso homered to lead off a six-run fourth-inning outburst Monday night by the host New York Mets, who rolled to a 15-2 win over the Minnesota Twins in the opener of a three-game interleague series. Eight starters had at least one hit and one RBI apiece for the Mets,...
Mets cut reliever Jake Diekman and promote fellow lefty Matt Gage from Triple-A Syracuse
NEW YORK (AP) — In a surprising move Monday, the New York Mets cut veteran reliever Jake Diekman and promoted fellow left-hander Matt Gage from Triple-A Syracuse. Diekman was 2-3 with a 5.63 ERA and four saves in a team-high 43 appearances after signing a $4 million, one-year contract with the Mets in February. Mets DFA Ex-Red Sox Reliever; Could Boston Seek Bullpen Reunion?
Although the MLB trade deadline is less than 48 hours away, the Boston Red Sox don’t need to rely solely on striking a deal with a suitor in order to add depth. The front office kicked off its efforts to improve the pitching staff, first by adding James Paxton from the Los Angeles Dodgers and then by acquiring Quinn Priester from the Pittsburgh Pirates. But after a sudden roster move that took place in the National League, perhaps the door has opened for yet another pitching reunion in Boston, this time involving reliever Jake Diekman.

Mets Monday Morning GM: 3 trade targets who make more sense now than they did a month ago
My tune on Michael Kopech has completely changed. It’s not just because he is pitching better either. The addition of Kopech to the Mets is more strategic than anything. The cost should still be a little insane considering the extra year of control he has. Despite being 2-8 with a 4.74 ERA in 43.2 innings, Kopech is a talented arm for the Mets to consider and maybe not a guy to immediately land on the roster either.
3 takeaways from the Mets’ series split with the Atlanta Braves
After a two-game sweep of the New York Yankees, the New York Mets returned to Citi Field to welcome the Atlanta Braves to town for a four-game set. Nine innings wasn’t enough to settle things in game one, but Jeff McNeil became the hero as his walk-off single gave the Mets a 3-2 victory.
