Struggling Mets pitcher has a vesting option for 2025 to avoid at all costs
Paying a player $4 million is nothing to Steve Cohen. Paying a player like Jake Diekman $4 million becomes outrageous no matter how much money the owner of the New York Mets has. With the year he’s having, the 2025 vesting option for another $4 million needs to be avoided at all costs.
Mets Minors Recap: Fujinami Dynamic in Rehab Outing
The Mets’ minor league affiliates were much more successful than the major league club Friday night, as Syracuse, Binghamton, and Brooklyn all picked up wins. There weren’t many standout performances, but Shintaro Fujinami notably struck out all three batters he faced in his rehab outing for Binghamton. After Nolan McLean struggled to start the sixth inning, Fujinami entered the game in a bases-loaded, no-outs scenario.
The Mets should probably pull Luis Severino sooner than they have been
When the Mets signed Luis Severino to a one-year deal relatively early in the offseason, there were legitimate reasons to believe he’d bounce back from a disastrous 2023 season and reasons for concern. By all accounts, what Severino has done thus far in 2024 has been a massive success,...
Eric Orze Selected from Triple-A Syracuse; Ty Adcock Optioned
In an attempt to right the ship, the New York Mets have announced the following moves to the bullpen. Right-handed pitcher Ty Adcock has been optioned to Triple-A Syracuse and right-handed pitcher Eric Orze has been selected from Syracuse. After last night’s blowout loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates, it was evident that changes had to be made to the bullpen. Adcock came in to relieve Jake Diekman and proceeded to give up three home runs in the 8th inning to add insult to injury.
Mets Morning News: Powerful pop in Pittsburgh plagues Mets
The Mets began a four-game series in Pittsburgh against the Pirates last night. Facing orookie phenom Paul Skenes, the Mets got off to an early 2-0 lead, and then... well, things went downhill from there. The Pirates his a franchise-record seven home runs against Luis Severino and the Mets’ bullpen—including two grand slams—and the result was a 14-2 shellacking.

The Pirates Hit 7 Home Runs Against The Mets & PNC Park Ran Out Of Fireworks To Celebrate
Looks like the good Grimace vibes are wearing off for the New York Mets. After an improbable surge back into the NL Wild Card picture, New York's perpetual little-brother MLB franchise is regressing to the mean with three straight losses, including an ugly 14-2 defeat at the hands of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Paul Skenes and by proxy Livvy Dunne have pretty much been the only sources of hope Pirates fans can bank on this season. Every time the rookie flamethrower Skenes is on the mound, Pittsburgh has a shot to win. However, in Skenes' four prior starts, the Buccos had given...
Mets should swing trades for relievers to make playoffs a reality
The Mets should be buyers. Here comes the proviso: They actually have a little more time to make the final decision, and if they are in the midst of yet another downturn, then their play and the standings will scream about the proper course to follow. If you need a refresher on how volatile the NL wild-card picture is: The Mets had a 7.9 percent playoff chance through June 2 (Fangraphs), a 46.9 percent through July 2, and a three-game losing streak heading into Saturday dropped it to 29.3. That is how real-time sensitive the races are. Thus, what kind of information the...
‘OMG’ Mets latest team in long line to adopt a catchy, fan-favorite tune
It’s one of those ear-worm songs, so even if it wasn’t something you were going to hear at the ballpark all summer, it would find a way to bore into your head and stay there awhile. But, of course, “OMG” isn’t just a catchy song that the Mets have adopted. It’s a catchy song that also happens to be sung by a player on the team — a player who, not for nothing, was hitting .346 entering the weekend. So maybe that gives “OMG” a unique leg up on some of the other songs that have been become closely associated with sports...
Pete Alonso’s Home Run Derby status dependent on All-Star shakeout
PITTSBURGH — Pete Alonso is waiting to find out his status for the All-Star Game before considering whether he will participate in the Home Run Derby. The Mets first baseman said Friday that he is taking the same approach as last season, when he waited until the All-Star roster announcement before committing to his fourth straight Home Run Derby. Alonso won the event in 2019 and ’21. Last year he was eliminated in the first round. “If I’m selected to the All-Star team, then I am definitely open to doing it,” Alonso said, referring to the Home Run Derby. “It’s a super fun...
1 player the Mets should trade for according to ESPN writer
ESPN Senior Writer David Schoenfield put together a list of one player every team should trade for or away. Who would the selection be for the New York Mets?. The Mets haven’t been playing as well after a hot June, but remain a buyer in the eyes of most. Things could change, but Schoenfield has them as “adders” for now.
Eric Orze promoted from Triple-A, Ty Adcock optioned
In a latest attempt to bolster their struggling bullpen, the Mets have promoted right-hander Eric Orze from Triple-A Syracuse. He takes the roster spot of Ty Adcock, who was optioned back to Triple-A following yesterday’s game, in which he gave up six runs in 1 2⁄3 innings pitched and was taken deep three times.

Mets Bullpen Allows Seven Runs in Loss to Pirates
The pitching performance wasn’t great from the Mets in their series opener in Pittsburgh. It started with Luis Severino, who was credited with seven earned runs and exited the game in the seventh inning with the bases loaded. The bullpen followed with a lackluster performance, and was the nail-in-the-coffin for the Mets as the bullpen gave up a combined seven earned runs on seven hits and four home runs.
