Evan: 'You never know' Mets are not the type of team you go all in for
As in, he is not dealing away top prospects from a system that Steve Cohen and company just worked to replenish at this time last year. “I would argue with anybody that this is a new baseball world. All you have to do is get in the playoffs and anything can happen, and I stand by that,” Evan said. “The Mets could go on a hot, miraculous run, like the Phillies did two years ago or the Diamondbacks did last year…if the Mets make the playoffs, I will have that belief that we all should have, which is ‘you never know.’

Manaea strikes out 11 in mound gem that sends Mets past Twins 2-0
NEW YORK (AP) — Sean Manaea struck out a season-best 11 over seven dominant innings Tuesday night, pitching the New York Mets to a 2-0 victory over the Minnesota Twins. Mark Vientos homered and J.D. Martinez had an RBI single to help the Mets (57-50) win for the 15th time in 21 games. They matched their season high at seven games above .500.
Sean Manaea (11 Ks), Mets stymie Twins
Sean Manaea and a pair of relievers combined on a two-hitter on Tuesday night for the host New York Mets, who beat the Minnesota Twins 2-0 in the middle game of a three-game interleague series. J.D. Martinez had two hits, including a fourth-inning RBI single, and Mark Vientos hit a fifth-inning homer as New York improved to 17-9 this month. Minnesota lost for the seventh time in 11 games. Manaea (7-4) gave up the two hits and walked one while striking out 11 -- the most strikeouts this season by a Mets starter. He retired the last 10 batters he faced after Carlos Santana's fourth-inning single. Twins rookie David Festa (1-2) took the hard-luck loss after giving up the two runs on three hits and one walk while striking out six over five innings. Festa faced the minimum through three innings of one-hit ball before New York manufactured a run in unusual fashion in the fourth. Brandon Nimmo drew a one-out walk, took second on a balk by Festa and moved to third on a wild pitch before trotting home on Martinez's single. Vientos opened the fifth with his 15th home run this season. Minnesota threatened to score against Ryne Stanek in the eighth. Max Kepler led off by reaching on first baseman Pete Alonso's throwing error, and Brooks Lee drew a one-out walk. Edwin Diaz relieved Stanek with two away and fanned Byron Buxton to end the inning before throwing a perfect ninth to earn his 13th save. The shutout was the third of the season for the Mets. The Twins were blanked for the seventh time. Nimmo and Jesse Winker each singled for New York, and Nimmo had a stolen base. Lee had Minnesota's first hit, a third-inning single. He stole second with two outs before Buxton struck out. Jorge Alcala, Griffin Jax and Caleb Thielbar combined to blank the Mets on two hits over three innings. --Field Level Media.
Sean Manaea ends Mets’ trade deadline day with solid outing in win vs. Twins

Manaea tossed seven innings of two-hit ball in the Mets’ 2-0 win over the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night at Citi Field. It was quite possibly his best start in a Mets uniform.

Mets deal for A’s starter Paul Blackburn
The Oakland Athletics traded their longest-tenured player, right-handed starting pitcher Paul Blackburn, to the New York Mets on Tuesday. Blackburn was just activated from the 60-day injured list last week after recovering from a stress reaction in his right foot that caused him to miss more than two months. He is 4-2 with a 4.41 ERA in nine starts this season, throwing just 38 strikeouts over 51 innings. In eight seasons, spent entirely with Oakland, Blackburn is 21-26 with a 4.83 ERA over 81 games (77 starts). Morris, 22, was a third-round pick by the Mets in the 2023 MLB Draft.
