Mets find more pitching, add starter Paul Blackburn in trade with A's
NEW YORK (AP) — Staying on the hunt for pitching, the New York Mets acquired starter Paul Blackburn from the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday for minor league right-hander Kade Morris. Blackburn was an All-Star in 2022 but has had trouble staying healthy at times. He missed more than two...

(Photo credit: Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports) The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired left-hander Josh Walker from the New York Mets on Tuesday in exchange for minor league southpaw Nicolas Carreno. Sean Manaea (11 Ks), Mets stymie Twins
Sean Manaea and a pair of relievers combined on a two-hitter on Tuesday night for the host New York Mets, who beat the Minnesota Twins 2-0 in the middle game of a three-game interleague series. J.D. Martinez had two hits, including a fourth-inning RBI single, and Mark Vientos hit a fifth-inning homer as New York improved to 17-9 this month. Minnesota lost for the seventh time in 11 games. Manaea (7-4) gave up the two hits and walked one while striking out 11 -- the most strikeouts this season by a Mets starter. He retired the last 10 batters he faced after Carlos Santana's fourth-inning single. Twins rookie David Festa (1-2) took the hard-luck loss after giving up the two runs on three hits and one walk while striking out six over five innings. Festa faced the minimum through three innings of one-hit ball before New York manufactured a run in unusual fashion in the fourth. Brandon Nimmo drew a one-out walk, took second on a balk by Festa and moved to third on a wild pitch before trotting home on Martinez's single. Vientos opened the fifth with his 15th home run this season. Minnesota threatened to score against Ryne Stanek in the eighth. Max Kepler led off by reaching on first baseman Pete Alonso's throwing error, and Brooks Lee drew a one-out walk. Edwin Diaz relieved Stanek with two away and fanned Byron Buxton to end the inning before throwing a perfect ninth to earn his 13th save. The shutout was the third of the season for the Mets. The Twins were blanked for the seventh time. Nimmo and Jesse Winker each singled for New York, and Nimmo had a stolen base. Lee had Minnesota's first hit, a third-inning single. He stole second with two outs before Buxton struck out. Jorge Alcala, Griffin Jax and Caleb Thielbar combined to blank the Mets on two hits over three innings. --Field Level Media.
In first trade deadline, Mets' David Stearns strikes balance between contending, future

Winker to the Mets, Adam to the Padres
The New York Mets acquired outfielder from the Washington Nationals last night in exchange for pitching prospect Tyler Stuart. Winker, 30, was signed by the Washington Nationals as a free agent this past offseason on a one year, $2 million deal. The lefthanded hitting corner outfielder was coming off a pair of bad seasons with the Mariners in 2022 and the Brewers in 2023, greatly diminishing his market this past offseason. He has bounced back with a strong 2024 campaign, slashing .257/.374/.419 in 379 plate appearances, and going 14 for 18 on stole base attempts after having stolen a total of three bases in his major league career prior to 2024. He was somebody who was talked about as a potential trade target for the Rangers.

David Peterson’s implosion, cold bats force Mets to settle for split with Braves after rout
Everything was going so well for the Mets — apparently too well. They were crushing the Braves. Kodai Senga was dealing. Citi Field felt like one big party. That was Friday night. Then, came the top of the sixth inning of a lopsided game. Senga, the staff ace making his first start of the season, suffered a regular season-ending, high-grade left calf strain while trying to get out of the way of an infield pop-up. They won that game, but lost the next two in feeble fashion, having to settle for a disappointing split. David Stearns must remember vital Mets truth at MLB...

I’m excited to be a part of it.” Winker has had a back-and-forth with Mets fans in recent years. It began in 2019 when he...

Several Mets rushed over to greet him, including Pete Alonso, who long ago played on the amateur travel ball circuit with Winker. More than a decade later, Alonso was happy to reunite with him as a teammate.
