C-Mac: It's now or never for Mets to make run, convince ownership not to sell at deadline

The Mets pulled out a walk-off win on Thursday night thanks to J.D. Martinez, winning their third game in the last four as they are now exactly one month away from the All-Star break.

Looking at the schedule, C-Mac says this month is going to determine what the team does at the trade deadline.

“They are about to embark on the next month…all against under .500 teams except for the New York Yankees [and Padres],” C-Mac said. “That’s a stretch of winnable games for this Mets team. As we get to the All-Star break and the trade deadline, I think this ownership group, David Stearns, the Mets, I think they want to break it down and trade. I think that’s what they wanted to do last year.”

If the Mets do indeed prefer to sell at the deadline and continue their rebuild, the team will have to give them a reason to reconsider. It won’t all be easy, as some of the under .500 teams like the Rangers and Cubs can still win ballgames, but if there was ever a time to turn the season around, it’s right now.

“If you’re a Met fan who still wants to have a season…this is going to be where they have to make up ground,” C-Mac said. “Even three games out with six teams ahead of them, they are gonna have to do better than that over the last month to convince this owner…to give this team a chance to get in and see what happens, and embark on the crapshoot that is the MLB playoffs. They’re gonna have to make up ground right now.”
