Pete Alonso had a monster day at the plate on Sunday, going 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI to pace New York’s 11-run attack for their fifth win in a row.

It had been a rough go for Alonso leading up to Sunday’s game, batting .215 with a .710 OPS in his previous 43 games, but BT says Sunday can be a launching pad for an Alonso tear that could wind up getting him a nice payday in Queens.

“You want to stay here, Pete? You want to be a Met for a long time? Let that bomb yesterday be a foreshadow of what you’re about to do for the next month,” BT said. “Make the Mets keep you.

“Right now, you are very expendable…but that man is capable of putting the Mets on his back for 15-20 games. They’re doing this without him…you want a contract for 6-7 years, lifelong Met, greatest Met position player of all time? Take it up now and take this team to a place I didn’t think they could get to.”

Alonso has struggled in a contract year, and with his future in Queens in doubt, BT says the homegrown slugger putting the team on his back and cementing the club in a playoff spot would be a great start to changing the narrative around what he deserves in free agency, and perhaps change the Mets’ level of willingness to sign him long term.

“You want to be that guy? Because I still don’t think that you are,” BT said. “Shove it down my throat, shove it down the Mets throat…and show us why you should be here forever.”
