As the Mets get set to host the slumping Yankees, Jerry says the Subway Series will be the start of a crucial stretch that could determine what the Mets front office decides to do with the rest of the season.

“They're a middling team, and I thought if they would play that type of baseball, then we would see what the owner would do at the trade deadline,” Jerry said. “If they were a bad team and weren't playing well, like they were, there's no doubt that they're gonna sit there and start selling off pieces.

“This next 10 to 12 days, I would think for the Mets is gonna tell us a lot in the direction they take the rest of the season.”

The Mets have pulled themselves out of the abyss that was a record of 11 games under .500, and have been arguably the hottest team in baseball over the past three-plus weeks. With the Yankees and the red-hot Astros on deck, Jerry says this upcoming stretch could decide what direction David Stearns and company decides to go in at the trade deadline next month.

“Are we going to put more money in, or we're gonna look to add or are we going to start to tear down in terms of continuing to build up the farm system and looking more towards the future?” Jerry said. “Are we trading Pete Alonso to see what we can get back for him?

“Will we try to make other moves in terms of shedding salary and payroll or are we going to add payroll and players?”
