Ticket Sales Open for Inaugural Simmons Bank Championship
With less than three months until the big golf event, ticket sales for the inaugural Simmons Bank Championship are now officially open to the public. The PGA Tour Champions playoff event will take place Oct. 21-27 at Pleasant Valley Country Club, and is Arkansas’ first-ever PGA Tour event. The Fort Smith Classic in 2010 was the last PGA Tour-sanctioned tournament in the state.

Governor Sanders calls convention for new Republican nominee for St. Francis County Quorum Court
FORREST CITY — Governor Sarah Sanders has called for a convention to fill a vacancy for the Republican nominee for a seat on the St. Francis County Quorum Court. Greg Gray was the Republican candidate for St. Francis County Justice of the Peace in District 6. Gray had to withdraw from the General Election due to an illness.
Arkansas giving shot to Ty'Kieast Crawford at guard, Joe More at tackle
Arkansas seemed to have established its five starters on the offensive line during spring drills, but there is still room for competition. Razorback coaches have opted to shift senior Ty'Kieast Crawford inside from right tackle to right guard and will work veteran Syracuse transfer addition Joe More at right tackle to compete for roles at those spots.
Hope Public Schools implements cell phone free policy this school year
HOPE, Ark. - Hope Public Schools are joining a pilot program this year aimed at addressing the negative effects of student cell phone use. Administrators say they already have a cell phone free policy on their elementary and middle school campuses. The new study grant is expanding the program to their high school campus.
Jill Gillen announced as new assistant coach for Volley Hogs fall season
The Arkansas volleyball team announced Wednesday in a press release that former Razorback outside hitter Jill Gillen has been named as an assistant coach for the fall season. Gillen’s hiring comes in a timely manner for head coach Jason Watson’s staff, as the season begins in just one month. In January, former associate head coach Suzie Fritz announced her departure from the team to join League One Volleyball, a youth volleyball brand with a professional volleyball league launching in the U.S. later this year.
Hempstead County wreck claims truck driver
A Murfreesboro truck driver was killed about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2024 in a single-vehicle wreck on Arkansas 355 in Hempstead County. According to a preliminary Arkansas State Police report, Kenneth Davis, 70, was driving a 2017 model Peterbilt south on the road when it left the roadway and overturned.

The state of Arkansas has another deep crop of talent on the way for 2026, as five Natural State products landed on Wednesday's updated Top247 rankings for the Class of 2026. The group of Arkansans is topped by Cherry Valley (Ark.) Cross County four-star defensive lineman Danny Beale, who comes in at No. 87 nationally after previously being ranked 80th in April.
