SEARK College exploring options for home basketball games
Southeast Arkansas College's athletic director and president are considering alternate locations for home basketball games during the college's first year of competition. Athletic director Chad Kline explained at Tuesday's SEARK board meeting he had been in contact with University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff officials about moving home games to H.O. Clemmons Arena. The NJCAA has approved SEARK's home gymnasium, the Relyance Bank Athletic Complex at 6808 S. Hazel St., for competition, but both Kline and recently hired President Tyrone Jackson expressed concern about the safety of the 84-foot-long court inside the former youth athletic facility. Standard college and professional basketball courts are 94 feet long and 50 feet wide.
Hobbs Named D1Baseball Assistant Coach of the Year
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas pitching coach Matt Hobbs has been named the D1Baseball Assistant Coach of the Year. Hobbs, who completed his sixth season as pitching coach in 2024, guided the Razorback pitchers to a historic and record-breaking campaign this past year. Arkansas ranked fifth in the nation with a 3.87 ERA and a 3.11 strikeout-to-walk ratio while leading the country with 12.1 strikeouts per nine innings, powered by a school-record 706 strikeouts.
The Tontitown Grape Festival Returns for 125th Year
The Tontitown Grape Festival, voted the ‘Top Fair & Festival in Northwest Arkansas,’ is coming back for its 125th year in August. Tontitown is a thriving Northwest Arkansas community with a rich heritage and strong spirit. The Italian Immigrant, a bronze statue honoring the town’s Italian ancestors and Father Bandini, was placed in front of Tontitown City Hall and dedicated in 1998. Today’s town leaders say the Italian Americans of the small city are very proud of their 125-year heritage. They know they have the respect of people both here and in their mother country and have always overcome adversity with integrity, intelligence and hope for a greater future.
Arkansas State baseball alum Tyler Zuber traded to Mets
JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - A Red Wolf was dealt in the final hours of the MLB Trade Deadline. The Tampa Bay Rays traded Tyler Zuber to the New York Mets. The Arkansas State baseball alum made two appearances with the Rays this past week. In 3.1 innings, Zuber struck out 4, allowed 1 earned run, and 3 hits.
Lights of the Ozarks parade, lighting ceremony to be held on separate nights in 2024
