Early Morning Collision on Route 113

BALDWIN, Maine — The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office is investigating a serious crash involving a car and a motorcycle that occurred Saturday morning on Route 113, also known as Pequawket Trail. At approximately 8:30 a.m., deputies responded to reports of the collision.

    High-Speed Accident

Upon arriving at the scene, deputies discovered that a red 2014 Mazda, driven by 18-year-old Yousif Abbas of Brownfield, was traveling west on Route 113 at a high rate of speed. According to the investigation, Abbas was attempting to pass a vehicle traveling in the same direction. As he moved into the eastbound lane to pass, his vehicle collided head-on with a 2022 Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by 29-year-old Isaiah Reynolds of Hiram.

    Devastating Impact

Reynolds, who was traveling eastbound, tried to avoid the oncoming Mazda but was unable to do so due to the car's speed and its position in his lane. The impact caused the motorcycle to tumble, ejecting Reynolds, who was not wearing a helmet. He sustained serious injuries and was transported to Maine Medical Center for treatment.

    Further Consequences

Following the collision, Abbas's vehicle left the roadway and rolled over several times. Abbas, who was not wearing a seatbelt, also sustained serious injuries and was taken to Maine Medical Center for treatment.

    Investigating the Causes

Deputies have identified speed, improper and unsafe passing, and driving to endanger as contributing factors to the crash. The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office Reconstruction Team, along with Maine State Police and Gorham Police Department, are continuing their investigation.

    Road Closure and Assistance

Route 113 was closed for approximately three hours following the accident to allow for thorough investigation but has since reopened. Baldwin Fire, Standish EMS, and Sacopee Valley EMS provided critical assistance at the scene.

    Legal Proceedings Ahead

Once the investigation is complete, the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office will meet with the Cumberland County District Attorney's Office to determine if charges will be filed against Abbas.

This tragic incident serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers of high-speed driving and improper passing on our roads.
