Welfare Check Leads to Disturbing Discovery

GARDINER, Maine — A man has been arrested for murder following the discovery of a body outside a home on Friday afternoon. Gardiner police were called to 16 Bartlett Street at approximately 3:41 p.m. for a welfare check, which was requested by a family member. Responding officers found the deceased male outside the residence, according to a news release from the Maine Department of Public Safety.

    Investigation and Arrest

The Maine State Police major crimes unit and the evidence recovery team immediately launched a death investigation, working through the night until the early hours of Saturday. An autopsy conducted on Saturday revealed that the victim had died from blunt force trauma, and his death was ruled a homicide. The victim's identity has not been released pending further testing for positive identification.

On Saturday, detectives arrested 52-year-old Gregory Fisher of South Gardiner in connection with the murder. Fisher was taken into custody and transported to the Kennebec County Jail. He is expected to make his first court appearance early next week to face the murder charge. It was not immediately clear if he had obtained legal representation.

    Ongoing Investigation

Authorities have not disclosed what led them to Fisher or provided any details on a possible motive. The investigation is ongoing as detectives continue to piece together the events leading up to the homicide.

    Community Impact

The incident has left the Gardiner community in shock as residents grapple with the news of a homicide in their neighborhood. Police are urging anyone with information related to the case to come forward to aid in the investigation.

As the case unfolds, the Maine State Police will provide updates on the progress of the investigation and any new developments.
