    A Fugitive on the Run

A dramatic scene unfolded in Auburn, Maine, on Wednesday when Matthew Gallagher, 34, a wanted fugitive from Lewiston, made a bold but ultimately unsuccessful attempt to evade capture by the U.S. Marshals Service and local police. Gallagher was wanted by the Androscoggin County Sheriff's Office on charges including theft of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, and criminal threatening with a firearm. Additionally, the Maine Department of Corrections sought him for a probation violation.

    The Chase on Main Street

The U.S. Marshal's Service, working with Auburn and Lewiston police, tracked Gallagher to an apartment on Main Street in Auburn. As officers searched the apartment, Gallagher, in a desperate bid to escape, fled to the roof of the building. From there, he made a daring leap to the roof of the neighboring building, hoping to elude capture.

    A Swift Surrender

Despite his bold escape attempt, Gallagher found himself surrounded by law enforcement. Officers ordered him to come down from the roof, and with no other options, Gallagher surrendered to the authorities without further incident. He was taken into custody and is now being held at the Androscoggin County Jail.

This dramatic arrest brings an end to the pursuit of a fugitive who had been on the run, wanted for a series of serious offenses. The collaborative effort between local law enforcement and the U.S. Marshals Service ensured that Gallagher could not escape justice.
