Biking Accident Leaves 70-Year-Old Man Seriously Injured

BANGOR, Maine — A 70-year-old man is in critical condition after a bicycling accident in Acadia National Park on Monday afternoon. Park rangers were called to the scene along Park Loop Road, where the man reportedly lost control of his bike.

According to park officials, the man’s foot became dislodged from his clip-in pedal, causing him to fall headfirst off his bicycle. Despite being an experienced road cyclist and wearing a helmet, he suffered significant injuries in the accident.

    Transported to Bangor Hospital

Due to the severity of his injuries, the man was airlifted to a hospital in Bangor, where he remains in critical condition. Authorities have not yet released the victim’s name.

While the use of a helmet undoubtedly helped minimize the damage, park rangers emphasize that accidents can still happen, even to the most experienced riders. Acadia National Park is a popular destination for cyclists, known for its scenic roads and challenging terrain, but this incident serves as a reminder of the risks involved.

    A Caution for All Cyclists

The accident has sparked concern among the local biking community, as many take to Acadia’s roads during peak cycling season. Park officials are urging all cyclists, regardless of skill level, to double-check their gear and pedals before hitting the trails and roads.

As the man remains in critical condition, authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
