    Flash Flood Warning issued for central Raleigh County

    BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Central Raleigh County.

    The warning is in effect until 10:45 AM EDT.

    At 7:46 AM EDT, Doppler radar detected thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area.

    Rainfall amounts between 1 and 1.5 inches have already fallen, with an additional 0.5 to 1 inch possible.

    Flash flooding is either occurring or expected to begin shortly.

    Hazard: Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

    Impact: Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses, as well as other poorly drained and low-lying areas.

    Locations likely to experience flash flooding include Beckley, Mabscott, Sophia, Macarthur, Crab Orchard, Dry Creek, Beaver, Stanford, Daniels, Coal City, and Lester.

    Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

    Report flooding to the National Weather Service by calling toll-free at 800-401-9535 when it is safe to do so.
