Climate volunteers to promote bi-partisan solutions to state legislators

More than two dozen Citizens’ Climate Lobby (CCL) volunteers from across North Carolina are heading to Raleigh on May 7 to “meet with legislators from both parties to discuss common sense solutions for climate change,” stated a news release from the organization. Meetings are scheduled with both Republicans and Democrats in the state Senate and House.

“CCL is a national, non-partisan grassroots organization that works to build the political will for effective, bipartisan, market-based climate solutions. CCL volunteers regularly meet with federal and state elected officials to discuss common sense climate solutions,” the release continued.

The volunteers plan to discuss legislation to increase leasing of solar panels and a market study to determine if improvements can be made in how electricity is delivered in North Carolina, as well as protection for wetlands.

“So many people want to see action on climate, and we’re finally seeing some bipartisan solutions coming from the state legislature,” said Ellen Van Velsor, one of CCL’s North Carolina state coordinators. “We believe bipartisan solutions will be enduring and effective and appreciate the willingness of our representatives in Raleigh to meet with us.”
