Wolfpack alum wins cheese rolling championship

Abby Lampe, a 23-year-old NC State graduate, claimed her second victory in the Cooper’s Hill cheese rolling competition in Gloucester, England on Monday.

Lampe cruised to a sizable win, tubling end-over-end down the 600-foot hill while giving chase to a nine pound wheel of Double Gloucester cheese. She bested dozens of women from all over the world in the women’s division.

The tradition dates back to 1826, and has grown in recent years with highlights featured on national sports news networks in the U.S.

Lampe, who graduated two years ago with an Industrial and Systems Engineering degree, also won the competition in 2022.

She said that she practiced by tumbling down a large hill in Dorthea Dix Park in Raleigh.
