On Thursday, June 6, the Raleigh Firebirds, the only professional men’s basketball team in the area, will take on the Albany Patroons in game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals.

The Firebirds went 17-7 on the season and are off to a strong start in the playoffs.

The Firebirds won the Southeastern Conference Championship on May 1, in Jacksonville, Fla.

The Firebirds took the best-of-three series in just two games, earning back-to-back wins.

In the first game, the Firebirds blew out the 95ers 127-99 to take an early 1-0 lead in the series.

Dreko Palmer led the team in scoring with 32 points and six rebounds while shooting 71% from three. Tre Gray also played a large part in the scoring, dropping 26 points, four assists and shot 57% from three.

Grey had a highlight crossover in the game, leading to a Firebird three-pointer.

Julian Gamble led the team in rebounding with 12 boards, adding to his 13 points and went 83.3% from the field.

Game two was a much closer match, with Raleigh taking the game 115-112.

The Firebirds are now looking to capture their first Eastern Conference title in the franchise’s six-year history.

The game is set for June 6 at 7 p.m. and will be played at Emery Gymnasium on the campus of St. Augustine’s University (1315 Oakwood Ave, Raleigh, NC).
