The National Weather Service in Raleigh has canceled a heat advisory that was in effect for several areas across eastern portions of central North Carolina on Sunday.

According to NWS, high temperatures reached the mid and upper 90s in some areas throughout the afternoon with a heat index reaching up to 104 degrees.

The heat wave is expected to continue through midweek under generally dry conditions.

Monday carries less of a risk for a thunderstorm lingering around the Triangle, with short-term modeling in rather stout agreement that any afternoon storm fires up in the general I-95 corridor, mainly east of the area.

    How to stay cool

Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat-related illnesses.

People are recommended to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check on relatives and neighbors.

According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, those who work outdoors should schedule frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments.
