As NC State’s football season approaches, a pair of former Wolfpack basketball players made their professional debuts at the NBA Summer League’s California Classic on Sunday night.

Former NC State forward Mohamed Diarra and former guard DJ Horne were both in action for their first taste of NBA playing time. The duo did not appear in Saturday night’s games, but they both hit the court Sunday night with something to prove.

Diarra, who is playing with the Los Angeles Lakers, had an impressive showing in limited time on the hardwood. The 6-foot-10, 215-pound four-man scored 1 point with six rebounds, three blocks and two assists in just under 14 minutes of playing time.

While the Montruil, France native kicked off his quest for a two-way contract with his do-it-all skill set, Horne looked to get going from deep with the San Antonio Spurs. Horne scored 6 points with five rebounds and an assist in 17 minutes of playing time.

Horne and the Spurs will return to the floor Tuesday night at 8 p.m. on NBA TV, while Diarra and the Lakers will play the Miami Heat on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and it will be broadcast live on ESPN2.

NC State football is among the ACC’s best with current active NFL players.

The MLB All-Star game rosters are set and former Wolfpack shortstop Trea Turner is NC State’s lone representative on the squads this year.

    Quote of the day

NC State will have a new radio voice for the first time in more than 30 years. Matt Chazanow knows he has big shoes to fill.

“I think humility is important, so I feel very grateful to have these opportunities because I get to do something I love,” Chazanow said. “In the end, as I’ve gotten older in doing this, the thing I value the most is the ability to be a vessel to Wolfpack fans for this thing that means so much to so many people. I have the gift and the opportunity to keep what Gary Hahn has had going.”
