NC Congressional Democrats speak about future of President Biden’s campaign for 2nd term

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — The U.S. House Democratic Caucus is expected to meet Tuesday morning behind closed doors to discuss President Joe Biden’s campaign and his future at the top of the ticket amid questions about his mental acuity .

On Monday, CBS 17 reached out to the Democratic congressional representatives from Central North Carolina to comment on President Biden’s future as their nominee.

Rep. Deborah Ross of  North Carolina’s 2nd District, covering Wake County:

“Joe Biden has led our country with wisdom, grace, and integrity. While leaders in our party continue to discuss the best path forward, I remain laser-focused on flipping the House, turning out the vote in Wake County, and ensuring that Democrats in North Carolina up and down the ballot are victorious in November. Donald Trump poses a dire threat to everything we hold dear and we need to come together as Democrats and as patriotic Americans to defeat him and preserve our democracy.”

Rep. Valerie Foushee of North Carolina’s 4th Congressional District:

“Over the last three years, President Biden has consistently delivered results through unprecedented job growth, historic investments to fix our nation’s infrastructure, and lowering costs for hardworking families. I am appreciative of the President and his administration’s continued efforts to prioritize the needs of the American people and for investing in our local communities here in North Carolina and across the country. I believe he is fit to run and am supportive of his reelection campaign.”

Last week, U.S. Rep. Wiley Nickel (D) of North Carolina’s 13th District said he expects more House Democrats to call for President Biden to get out of the race even as Biden says he’s staying in.

Also last week, Democratic U.S. Rep. Don Davis of North Carolina said President Biden’s debate performance was “a disaster” and added he needs to “step up” if he remains in the race.
