    2 firefighters taken to hospital for heat injuries at building fire across from Raleigh Country Club

    RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Two Raleigh firefighters were taken to a hospital for heat-related injuries as crews fought a blaze at apartments during an excessive heat warning Monday afternoon , officials said.

    The fire was reported just before 5:45 p.m. at 409 Donald Ross Drive, which is at a small group of apartments across from the Raleigh Country Club.

    Flames were coming from a one-story building at the site as firefighters arrived. Fire officials said the building that caught fire was only used for storage.

    Two firefighters were taken to a hospital for heat-related injuries, according to Raleigh fire officials.

    Authorities said 35 firefighters responded to the blaze which took about 25 minutes to get under control.

    A large hole could be seen in the roof of the building that caught fire. The fire took place west of Interstate 440 between New Bern Avenue and Poole Road.

    The injured firefighters are expected to recover, officials said.
