RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — While GoTriangle has just announced lifting free bus fares from the COVID-19 pandemic at the top of July, they’ve introduced a new program to help more bus riders.

The Transit Assistance Pass is the latest program under the GoTriangle system, and it looks to expand enrollment with folks who use public transportation.

Also known as the TAP GoPass, enrollment begins Wednesday for people between age 19 and 64 who qualify for Medicaid or SNAP/EBT benefits. The discounted programs for children under 18, folks who qualify for disability and seniors above age 65 are still available.

From Wednesday until Aug. 1, people can still ride the bus for free while GoTriangle gets everyone ready for paid fares — as well as their mobile app Umo. Around 9,000 users have downloaded the Umo just this month alone, according to a spokesperson for GoTriangle.

If you qualify for one of the discounted or free programs offered by GoTriangle, you can apply for a GoPass at their Regional Enrollment Portal .
