A grocery store in Raleigh is going to close soon.

Lowes Foods announced in a press release that the location at 8201 Rowlock Way in northwest Raleigh will shut down. This supermarket, located in the Cornerstone Commons shopping center near the Glenwood Avenue and Country Trail intersection, is one of three that will close by the end of August .

Locations at 805 Pine Grove Drive in Wilmington, North Carolina , and Kj’s Market at 110 U.S. Highway 52 in Moncks Corner, South Carolina , are also shuttering.

The Winston-Salem-based grocer said in the press release it was “adjusting its store portfolio” as it focuses on parent company Alex Lee’s “broader growth strategy to invest in new stores and remodel existing stores.”

Alex Lee and Lowes Foods officials said in the news release that the grocers are “working closely” with store hosts at the three locations being shuttered to offer them positions at other supermarkets.

The news comes as Lowes Foods prepares to open a new location in Aiken, South Carolina , on July 25. That will be the grocer’s first location in the Augusta, Georgia, market.

In addition, Carolina-based Lowes Foods has “ several store openings pending ” in the following cities:

    • Concord, North Carolina
    • Kannapolis, North Carolina
    • Waxhaw, North Carolina
    • Indian Land, South Carolina
    • Lexington, South Carolina

    Recent expansion for Lowes Foods

The grocer’s plans to add to its store portfolio continues its trend of expansion in North Carolina.

In 2023, Lowes Foods opened a store in Pittsboro . And a supermarket in Winterville , near Greenville, opened earlier this year.

Which other grocery stores are opening in the Triangle?

The News & Observer has previously reported on new supermarket locations:

    • North Carolina-based Food Lion opened a store in Johnston County today.
    • Wegmans is expanding to Holly Springs . The location is expected to open in 2027.
    • Publix has plans to add three locations to its Triangle portfolio in 2025. The stores will be in Wake and Johnston counties .
