WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): As heat and drought make headlines in the coming week across our region and the Mid-Atlantic, it’s important to understand how drought is assessed. Drought is not just about lack of rain or snow (in the winter). The U.S. Drought monitor takes local insight from more than 450 observers across the country. Precipitation trends, streamflow, reservoir levels, temperature, evaporative demand (hot weather like we are having puts this variable in the upper part of excessive), soil moisture and vegetation health all play a roll.

WOAY-TV (Oak Hill, WV): A gusty storm will move across at least the Route 19 corridor between 6-9 p.m. today. RAIN/STORMS: Following the evening storm today, a shower is possible Wednesday morning. Areawide, about 0.50″ of rain is expected Wednesday afternoon from showers and one or two gusty storms. A few lingering showers could fire back up Thursday morning with less than 0.10″ of rain and then Saturday, Monday and Tuesday offer scattered rain with total amounts of 0.50″ or less.
