Hudson County Sheriff's Office DWI Checkpoint: Promoting Public Safety
HUDSON COUNTY, NJ – The Hudson County Sheriff’s Office will be cracking down on drivers impaired by alcohol or drugs on Thursday, July 25th, by conducting a DWI Checkpoint in the area of Kennedy Blvd and Manhattan Ave in Jersey City. The primary purpose of this checkpoint is not to make arrests, according to Hudson County Sheriff Frank Schillari, but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired. Fireball erupts from truck on Route 3 forcing lane closures, evacuations
A truck caught fire and erupted into a fireball Monday morning on Route 3 in Passaic County forcing lane closures and major traffic delays, authorities said. The incident was reported shortly after 9 a.m. near the Grove Street exit in Clifton, according to 511nj.org. Clifton police said they received reports of “multiple explosions” at the scene.

Rocks Rock: Ridgewood Parks & Recreation Offering "Rock On" Geology Summer Camp for Kids
RIDGEWOOD, NJ — Is your child interested in rock? Sorry, not rock — rocks? If so, Ridgewood Parks & Recreation might have the summer camp for you. At the week-long "Rock On" camp, children ages 6 to 10 can learn about plate tectonics, volcanology, earthquakes, types of rock, glaciation, identifying local rocks, mining and mineral exploration, gems and minerals. The camp will run from Aug. 5 to Aug. 9 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at The Stable on 259 N. Maple Ave. Each child will receive a basic illustrated reference book geared to their ages for further study after the Camp ends. It will cost $275 for Ridgewood residents and $290 for non-residents. Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred overnight in Newark. The shooting was reported about 2 a.m. in the 100 block of Woodside Avenue. Waterford Holds Memorial Service for Butler Firefighter
Sunday was the final day of Waterford Heritage Days. People could enjoy a church service, vendors, skydivers, and a variety of foods. Vape disposal boxes available in Putnam
CARMEL- The Prevention Council of Putnam has initiated a system allowing for the safe disposal of vape products countywide. Despite warnings of the dangers of vaping, the Centers for Disease Control reported recently, e-cigarette monthly unit sales increased by 46.6 percent—from 15.5 million units in January of 2020, to 22.7 million units in December of 2023; prefilled device sales decreased, while disposable device sales increased; and sales of sweet, youth-appealing flavors increased.
Maher steps up to help 5-year-old Chester girl battling cancer
CHESTER – Assemblyman Brian Maher (R, Walden) describes 5-year-old Lilly Fernandez as a fun and spunky girl who has a love for music, singing, and dancing. Fernandez’s story resonates with Maher so much because the little girl reminds him of his daughter. Young Lilly was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) in March and Maher has organized a team to support the Fernandez family, which includes fundraising. A GoFundMe has been created to raise funds for Lilly Fernandez’s medical and travel expenses.

Retired Chimps Used for Research Need Funds to Stay Alive
Sixty six captive chimpanzees on a small island in Liberia, Africa were abandoned by the New York Blood Center and are now in desperate need of food and water. This group of chimps were captured, breed, and used for research in Vilab II- a facility created by NYBC in partnership with the Liberian Institute for Biomedical Research in the 1970s. After more than 30 years of confinement and injecting these chimps with hepatitis to study its affect on donated blood, the lab shut down in 2005.
