Alleged SD pedophile takes his own life when faced with arrest
CANOVA, SD (KELO.com) — The New York Post is reporting a disturbing story from South Dakota of an alleged pedophile killing himself earlier this week when confronted by a predator hunter. 60-year old Donald Letcher reportedly gave graphic detail of disturbing videos featuring children – including infants – to Predator Poachers Founder Alex Rosen. Rosen’s crew recorded enough to use as evidence and called in police, and persuaded Letcher to admit his crime to an officer. Letcher then walked inside his home and took his own life with a gun. Letcher was convicted of molesting a 9 year old girl in 1996, but that conviction was overturned.
Madison Crush 12U sweeps USA Softball South Dakota Rec State Tournament
The Madison Crush 12U softball team soared their way to a 6-0 sweep at the USA Softball South Dakota Girls Fastpitch Rec State Tournament July 19-21. Led by head coach Matt Mette, the team of soon-to-be seventh graders cruised to an outstanding 30-2 record across their league games and three other appearances at local tournaments, with their state title now sitting as the crown jewel of their impressive 36-2 season.
32,820 Blizzards for 2024 Miracle Treat Day
32,820 blizzards were sold this year in Madison, for the 19th Annual Children’s Miracle Treat Day. As in years past, the event at the Dairy Queen in Madison included a full day of fun and games, and raised money for the Children’s Miracle Network. In addition to the proceeds from every blizzard sold going to CMN, two local families added special donations. The Kevin and Lauri Minnaert family donated one dollar to CMN for every blizzard sold from 12-to-1pm Thursday. The Gitzen family in Madison also did a match from 5-6pm.
Madison Post 25 falls to Dell Rapids, will play Volga today in Region Tournament
The Madison Post 25 baseball team lost to Dell Rapids 6-1, in the semi’s of the Region 2B American Legion baseball tournament on Thursday. Dell Rapids took control early, scoring two runs in the 1st inning off a Madison error and a single from CJ Smith. Dell’s then scored a run in four consecutive innings starting in the 3rd. Madison’s lone run came on an error in the 6th.

Update on fatal UTV crash in Minnehaha County
GARRETSON, S.D. (KELO) — The South Dakota Department of Public Safety (DPS) has provided an update into a fatal crash that occurred near Garretson on July 21. According to the DPS, the vehicle in question was a Polaris RZR side-by-side, which rolled after the 16-year-old driver lost control on a gravel road east of Garretson.
SDDOT To Activate Temporary Traffic Signals During Sturgis Rally
(Sturgis, SD) — The South Dakota Department of Transportation will activate temporary traffic signals ahead of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. From July 30th to August 12th, the signals will be in full operation at over a dozen locations along S.D. Highways 34, 79, and 44, U.S. Highway 16, and Interstate 90. Speed limits will also be reduced in some areas. Details can be found on the D-O-T’s website.

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - Post 22 heads to the state tournament after a shutout sweep against Huron Post 7 on Thursday and Friday. The Hardhats beat Huron 8-0 and 13-0 securing their spot in the next week’s tournament in Brookings. Post 22 is playing for its 45th state title. Post 22 is the only West River team who advanced.
