Randolph County man accused of assaulting 3 people, including emergency medical personnel

RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — A Randolph County man has been accused of attacking three people, according to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office.

Jacob Austyn Hicks, 22, has been identified as the suspect and was initially charged with felony assault inflicting serious injury, misdemeanor assault on a female and misdemeanor simple assault. Later, he received an additional charge of felony assault causing physical injury to emergency medical personnel.

On Friday, deputies responded to a report of an assault on Melody Lane in Randleman. At the scene, the victims told deputies that an unknown man walked out of the woodline beside a home and began to yell at them. The man then approached and assaulted two people. The man then ran back to the woodline.

While deputies were investigating, the sheriff’s office says another call came in regarding a suspicious man in the area matching the same description.

Deputies found Hicks in the parking lot of a Dollar General. He was arrested and received a $15,000 secured bond for his initial charges.

On Sunday, Hicks allegedly attacked medical staff at the Randolph County Detention Center, leading to his additional felony charge. He received a $250,000 secured bond.
