Walsh University Receives $9,000 Grant for Restorative Connections Project
The Center for Restorative Justice and Community Health at Walsh University, in partnership with the Simply Youth program in Stark County, has been awarded a $9,000 grant from the Stark County Social Justice Consortium/Stark County Community Action Agency. This funding is supporting the Impact Institute-Restorative Connections Project, directed by Dr. Michelle Bemiller, Professor of Sociology and Criminal Justice and Director of the Center for Restorative Justice and Community Health at Walsh University. This program will run through the month of July, impacting youth ages 13 to 15 who are residents of the City of Canton.

Playhouse Square announced that tickets to the touring Broadway productions of TINA – THE Tina Turner MUSICAL and DEAR EVAN HANSEN will be available for purchase beginning Wednesday July 17, 2024, at 10 a.m. Both shows are part of the 2024-2025 Broadway in Akron series, a collaboration between Playhouse Square and the University of Akron and will take the stage at E.J. Canfield bank raises money for displaced people affected by Realty Tower explosion
A Canfield bank pitched in with the Youngstown community to gathered money and supplies for residents displaced by the Realty Tower explosion. Several downtown Youngstown residents were ordered to evacuate after the remnants of the building were declared hazardous by structural engineers. The International Towers apartments in particular housed many residents who were displaced after being given an evacuation order.

Fire destroys Brush Rd. barn
Two days after fire destroyed a 40×100-feet barn used to store hay and straw, smoke continued to escape from bales of hay exposed when the structure collapsed. Augusta Volunteer Fire Department Chief Charles Wright said his department was toned June 12 at 8:50 p.m. for a fully involved structure fire at 1235 Brush Rd., Minerva.

Class of 2024 graduate Isaac Bai was honored with the Eric Scott Russell Student Kindness Award, which recognizes students who consistently demonstrate kindness, caring and mutual respect in interactions with their peers and adults, according to a news release. Akron man accused of drug, gun charges barricades himself from U.S. marshals, authorities say
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Federal agents arrested a man Tuesday and accused him of weapons and various drug charges in Akron. A judge issued a warrant for Larry Treitinger II, 39, after authorities say they found four guns and different drugs, including cocaine, methamphetamine and fentanyl, in a home on July 3. Investigators said they linked Treitinger to the house.
