A New Jersey 12U softball team’s hopes of reaching the Little League World Series were dashed last week after a controversial state championship game. The state championship between Toms River and Hanover Township was suspended due to lightning with Hanover leading 6-4. The game was stopped at the start of the sixth inning because of the weather, but tournament officials initially said the game would be played the next day.

Dunmore Schools sued after sexually explicit film of student is passed around
SCRANTON - The parents of a student at Dunmore Middle School have sued the district after they say a sexually explicit video of him was allowed to be shared by students. A lawsuit was filed July 12 in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania by parents on behalf of their minor son, JH, against the Dunmore School District and several individuals.

Keystone intermediates win third consecutive game at Eastern Regional
DOVER, Del. — Keystone Intermediate Little League pitcher Evan Edwards put on quite the performance on Monday morning. Edwards, Keystone’s starting pitcher who pitched 6 2/3 innings, struck out 13 batters, gave up five hits and held opponent South Vineland to just four runs and three walks as Keystone defeated South Vineland, 7-4. The win is Keystone’s fourth dating back to its comeback win in the state championship game last Monday evening. Keystone, who has now beaten New York and New Jersey’s state winners, will play again Tuesday morning. Edwards also went a perfect 3 for 3 at the plate and scored two runs with a walk, Hayden Hanley, Camden Fuller and Trey Lapp all tallied two hits. Fuller was 2 for 3 with two RBIs while Lapp was 2 for 2 with a walk and an RBI.

Active shooter drills can traumatize students, research shows
Within my first few weeks attending the University of Scranton, a police officer came to our recreation center to provide instructions on how to respond during a school shooting. This talk included videos and photos from real shootings, while also graphically describing the actions necessary to take during such an event. I found the talk to be disturbing and frightening as it instilled a strong sense of fear within me that this situation could actually take place during my time on campus.
Pastor Robert Jeffress vows to rebuild historic Dallas church heavily damaged by fire
DALLAS (AP) — The leader of an historic church in downtown Dallas nearly destroyed by a fire told congregants on Sunday that they will rebuild the iconic structure. Services for First Baptist Dallas were held at the nearby Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, where senior Pastor Robert Jeffress said they will rebuild the sanctuary, which now appears as a charred shell, with its stained glass windows ruined and virtually everything inside its brick walls destroyed.
