Plymouth man charged with abandoning dog in Wilkes-Barre
WILKES-BARRE — A Plymouth man is facing felony and misdemeanor animal cruelty charges after he allegedly abandoned a dog in Wilkes-Barre. Dennis W. Meekins, 41, last known address as Willow Street, was identified by multiple surveillance cameras as the man who left a dog caged inside a kennel on a sidewalk in front of a house on Loomis Street on July 12, according to court records.

Freeland American Legion Post 473 donates to fire department
The Freeland American Legion Post 473 presented a donation to the Freeland Fire Department which will be utilized for improving its fire ground operations. The department, with this donation, will be purchasing a battery operated positive pressure ventilation fan which will be used to remove smoke and toxic gases from a structure during fire or carbon monoxide incidents. It will be replacing older units which were gasoline powered and during their operation actually produced carbon monoxide in its exhaust and therefore were ineffective in certain incidents. These units are more effective and efficient along with being safer. The Legion with this donation again demonstrated its continued commitment to the department's efforts to improve emergency services in our community. The generosity of the Legion over the years has assisted the fire department in funding major purchases and exhibits their commitment to improving the lives of all who reside here. The Department membership expresses its appreciation to the Legion for their support.

I sat on a crowded pool deck the day I realized how bad it was. Hours before, my sister Krystyna woke me up during the night with another headache. During winter 2007, she had moved home to Scranton, Lackawanna County, from Virginia on disability leave when she started having headaches and falling.
Little League: Keystone Immediate holds off Rhode Island in second round of Eastern Regional
Keystone Intermediate Little League continued its winning ways on the second day of a back-to-back after picking up a come-from-behind win in the regional opener. After Keystone and Rhode Island scored three runs apiece in the first inning, Keystone scored five more in the combined second and third innings, holding off a late comeback try in an 8-6 win in the second round of the Little League Intermediate Regional tournament.

Exaltation of the Holy Cross Parish, 420 Main Road, Buttonwood, Hanover Twp. will host their annual Big Tent Bazaar from 6 to 11 p.m. Friday, July 19; 5 p.m. to midnight after the 4 p.m. Mass on Saturday, July 20; and 5 to 11 p.m. Sunday, July 21.
