Spickard Board of Education sets tax rate hearing and budget for 2024-2025
The Spickard Board of Education convened on Monday, July 15, addressing several issues and making decisions for the upcoming school year. The board approved the payment of bills totaling $7,245.19. Additionally, they reviewed and approved the 2023-2024 budget amendments, resulting in a final revenue of $1,177,382.60 and final expenditures amounting to $1,046,039.60.
Glenwood interim superintendent arrives at 'destination district'
(Glenwood) -- New leadership is on board in the Glenwood School District. Nicole Kooiker took the helm as the district's interim superintendent earlier this month. Kooiker comes to Glenwood from the Cedar Rapids School District, where she served as deputy superintendent as well as an administrator at Roosevelt Middle School from 2020 until June 30th. Prior to her time in Cedar Rapids, she was superintendent and chief executive officer in the Ottumwa School District from 2016-2020, and before that, superintendent in the West Marshall district from 2013-16. She also served as a teacher and principal prior to her superintendent roles. Speaking on KMA's "Morning Line" program Monday morning, Kooiker says she considered Glenwood "a destination district."

Iowa weather: Cooler days ahead in Des Moines forecast
DES MOINES, Iowa — Afterthe very strong storms yesterday, we are cooling and calming down. After surveying the damage, the National Weather Service confirmed an EF-1 tornado touched down in the Des Moines metro. It formed in Urbandale and traveled about seven miles before lifting near Des Moines Water Works. Wind speeds were estimated at 105 mph.
