The Register's sister afternoon paper, the Des Moines Tribune, reports on his Sept. 22, 1959, arrival at the Des Moines airport to visit his friend, seed entrepreneur Roswell Garst, in Coon Rapids. Sigourney Baseball, Softball Qualify For State
Tuesday night won’t soon be forgotten in Sigourney, as Savage baseball and softball each qualified for the 2024 State Tournament. Happening within minutes of each other, the Sigourney boys clinched first, knocking off Burlington Notre Dame 4-2 in Fairfield. Eighth in the final IHSAA rankings, the Savages are 21-4, South Iowa Cedar East Champions, District 12 Champions, and now own the Substate 6 title for the first time in program history. Led by Head Coach Lee Crawford, who earned his 300th win Tuesday night, the Savage boys begin the 2024 1A Baseball State Tournament facing off with Lynnville-Sully in Carroll.
