Montana Free Press is reporting that The Ivy at Great Falls will be closing in August 2024. Montana's largest nursing home is being closed due to a litany of patient safety violations for years. The Ivy at Great Falls was terminated from the federal Medicaid and Medicare programs in July of 2024.
Highway 12 blocked by fallen trees, rock slides from Kooskia to Montana state line

Missoula group seeking plastic ban fundraising for signature gathering
(Missoula Current) A push to place a proposed ban on single-use plastics before Missoula voters this November must raise more than 8,400 signatures over the coming weeks. To do that, Plastic Free Missoula is looking to raise money to pay a team of signature gatherers. This week, it launched a GoFundMe account to raise $20,000. As of Tuesday morning, the effort had netted $1,775.

Aggregation of lots sets city up for purchase of poplar farm

Fans of classic cars and vans had their choice of shows they could attend in south Lincoln County last weekend.Happy's Inn hosted its annual classic car show pitting Lincoln and Flathead counties against each other.Flathead County came out the winner in 2024.Van lovers headed to the first Northwest Regional meet at Timberlane Campground outside of Libby.Event organizers said the Northwest regional will rotate annually to a different established location each year with the first one hosted in Montana. Festival of Art draws nearly 50 vendors

Rides, exhibits, vintage vehicles popular at Live History Days
Live History Days at the Miracle of America Museum in Polson is always a fun time for everybody – families, couples, motorheads, or anyone who loves vintage things. This year’s event was held last Saturday and Sunday, and it was toasty, but that didn’t stop people from attending. In fact, two couples from St. George, Utah, Lucinda and Kevin Hess and Anna and Keith Prisbrey, got 10 miles down the road before the women made the men come back. Lucinda loved the toys and old fire truck, and both women appreciated the medical tent. The guys admitted it was fun, and said they’d seen lots of interesting stuff.
Despite heat, powwow attracts crowd
Though the weather has been broiling, the Standing Arrow Powwow in Elmo last weekend went on as planned from July 18-21. The first grand entry was at 7 p.m. on Friday night. Mike Kenmille carried the eagle staff, and the Veteran’s Warrior Society posted the colors. A $20,000 drum contest brought drum groups to the powwow, and $50,000 was the payout in contest dancing.A new stick-game pavilion was home to the $10,000 stick game tournament.
