Bomb explosion at California courthouse injures five: officials

A bomb explosion at a California courthouse injured at least five people Wednesday morning, officials said.

A male suspect has been detained and the courthouse remained closed Wednesday afternoon as investigators processed the scene, according to a social media post by Santa Barbara County Sheriff spokesperson Raquel Zick.

The explosion came from “an intentionally set improvised explosive device," the sheriff’s office said.

Santa Maria is about 160 miles north of downtown Los Angeles.

Five people were being treated at a nearby hospital , hospital spokesperson Sandy Doucette told CNN>

“Of these, three are in fair condition, while two are in good condition. We are providing them with the highest level of care and support,” she told CNN.
