Revealed: Jack Smith's new Trump evidence could reach the public before election

New evidence in former President Donald Trump's criminal election interference case could be revealed to the public as soon as mid-October, according to a new analysis of court records.

Judge Tanya Chutkan on Friday filed an order setting the timetable for Trump's attorneys to object to any new information revealed in a 180-page summary of Smith's case filed under seal to Washington D.C. federal court on Thursday.

Chutkan ordered the defendants to file objections to proposed redactions in parts of the Smith filing by Oct. 1 at noon and Oct. 10 at 5 p.m., a new minute ruling shows.

Politico reporter Kyle Cheney argued Chutkan's schedule could mean new evidence comes to light before Trump faces off against Vice President Kamala Harris on Election Day on Nov. 5.

"Appears we could see the redacted version by mid-October," Cheney said. "May see some ancillary filings sooner."

Smith filed this extensive document after a Supreme Court ruling granted Trump partial presidential immunity and sent the Justice Department scrambling to rework the year-old case.

Reports show the new evidence could include grand jury interview transcripts and FBI notes from witnesses that include Vice President Mike Pence, Ivanka Trump and former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows.
