Firefighters in Scranton who held up "Scranton Firefighters for Trump" signs at the former president's campaign rally this week may not have been firefighters from Scranton.

The Times-Tribune snapped photos of Donald Trump's Scranton rally event Wednesday in which several people held up the signs, including two men who wore firefighter formal dress-blue uniforms.

But the men were not firefighters from Scranton , the Scranton Fire Department firefighters' union said in a Facebook post.

"Local 60 would like to address the rally held earlier today in Scranton for former President Trump and the Office of President of the United States," the union said Wednesday, noting that "This is not a political post, rather a clarification post for anyone who sees or may see the event."

"Multiple CITIZENS were seen with 'Scranton Firefighters for Trump' signs at today’s rally. It is noted that no member of Local 60 were carrying those signs as the [International Association of Fire Fighters] has chosen not to endorse a candidate this election."

The union said it honors and respects everyone's political opinions, and emphasized it has not endorsed a candidate president, in alignment with the IAFF.

"The signs seen were not a representation of SFD Local 60 nor an endorsement of any candidate," the union said.

Local 60 President Allen Lucas told the Times-Tribune he did not know where the signs came from and that none of the people holding the signs in the photos were Scranton firefighters, former or active.

Trump campaign spokesman Kush Desai told the newspaper they also don't know where the signs originated.

“Those 'Firefighters for Trump' signs were not something that the campaign made or handed out,” Desai said.

During the rally, Trump boasted that the firefighters endorsed him, calling them "a very good looking group of human beings,

The mystery followed a similar incident in Michigan this week, in which attendees of a rally with Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) boasted they were "Autoworkers for Donald Trump." A report Tuesday revealed that at least two were not auto workers .
