Former President Donald Trump , while speaking at an event in Colorado on Friday, falsely claimed that Vice President Kamala Harris had used a teleprompter during a town hall the previous night — an accusation he made while using a teleprompter onstage at an event in Colorado.

“Did you see where she did a town hall yesterday and she used a teleprompter? I never saw a town – they never – you don’t use teleprompters, we don’t use teleprompters, period, pretty much. You don’t use ‘em for town halls,” Trump said at a rally in Aurora with a teleprompter at his side.

"Trump’s claims are both wrong," wrote CNN fact-checker Daniel Dale.

Trump’s false claim that Harris was guided by a teleprompter at a town hall hosted by Univision on Thursday emerged in conservative circles overnight and was pushed online by several right-wing commentators with large followings, including Benny Johnson, Charlie Kirk, Greg Price and Fox News host Sean Hannity, CNN reported. The network added that the false accusation generated millions of views on X.

But the claim that Harris used a teleprompter at the town hall was swiftly shot down by Univision News president Daniel Coronell as "not true."

“The teleprompter that displays a text written in Spanish was a support element for the town hall moderator. I can tell you this with first-hand knowledge because I was in charge of the television program,” Coronell wrote in a response to Price's posting of a video of Harris at the event.

Investigative journalist Victoria Brownsworth added on X, “Kamala Harris was walking around on a stage at the town hall answering questions from the audience. She was not using a teleprompter. You can actually see the teleprompter Trump is using in this speech,” she said, referring to Trump’s speech Friday.

Though he regularly ad-libs additional remarks in his speeches, CNN noted that Trump regularly uses teleprompters for most of his speeches, as do other politicians in high-profile offices.
