'Won't vote for him again': Arizona Republican women torch Trump in interviews with NYT

Arizona women who have for decades been loyal Republican voters are telling the New York Times that they cannot vote for former President Donald Trump this year.

In a video posted by the Times , the Republican women said that the former president boasting about overturning Roe v. Wade has not only changed their minds about the issue of abortion, but also about Trump himself.

"2016, I voted for Trump," said Kathy Petsas, an Arizona Republican precinct committee member. "In 2020, voted for Trump. But I won't vote for him again."

Petsas also said of abortion that "when people go through this, it's probably the most painful decision they've ever made" and she then told her own story about having to undergo a dilation and curettage (a.k.a., "D&C") operation after she started bleeding during a surprise pregnancy.

"Let's say the 1864 [Arizona abortion] law was in place, would they have allowed me to have a D&C, would they have investigated me?" she asked.

However, Petsas still said she couldn't support Vice President Kamala Harris in this year's campaign.

Sam Campana, a former mayor of Scottsdale, Arizona and a member of the Republicans for Harris organization, said she took offense at Trump repeatedly taking credit for the overturn of Roe v. Wade.

"President Trump prides himself in the fact that he dismantled Roe v. Wade," she said. "It doesn't serve women well, it doesn't serve the country well. And so I can't support him and I would say to friends of mine, if [abortion rights ballot initiative] Prop. 139 is your issue, I don't see how you could support candidate Trump."

Jackie Allen, a stay-at-home mom who grew up idolizing Ronald Reagan, told the Times she she's making the switch to Harris this year.

"I have done phone banking on one occasion and I'll be doing it again," she said. "This time, I think that a lot of Arizonans feel, and I feel, that our vote actually counts."
