Kamala Harris pushed back Wednesday evening during a Fox News interview when the network’s chief political anchor played a clip of Donald Trump that was set up after the vice president spoke about the dangers of Trump’s “enemy of the people” rhetoric.

“He’s the one who talks about an enemy within – an enemy within – talking about the American people, suggesting he would turn the American military on the American people,” Harris told host Bret Baier in an interview that aired Wednesday , her first formal interview with the network.

“We asked that question to the former president today…and this is how he responded,” Baier said.

When the clip was over, Harris wasn’t satisfied with what she saw.

“Bret, I’m sorry, and with all due respect, that clip was not what he has been saying about the 'enemy within' that he has repeated when he is speaking about the American people. That’s not what you just showed,” Harris said as Baier tried to tell her that he was asked that question “specifically.”

“No, no, no that’s not what you just showed in all fairness,” Harris said as she pushed back. “Here’s the bottom line, he has repeated it many times, and you and I both know that. And you and I both know that he has talked about turning the American military against the American people. He has talked about going after people who are engaged in peaceful protests…”

She concluded the tense exchange by saying that the president should be able to take negative comments without threatening detractors.

“This is a democracy and in a democracy, the president of the United States of America, in the United States of America, should be willing to be able to handle criticism without saying he’d lock people up for doing it.”
