Some right-wing media operatives have been hyping up the release of Democratic opponent Ruben Gallego's divorce court records as a smoking gun that would dramatically change the course of the 2024 Arizona United States Senate race.

But now the records have been unsealed and the Arizona Republic reports that they do not contain any Earth-shattering revelations.

The most troubling aspect of the filing, according to the Arizona Republic, is that "Ruben Gallego filed suit to end his marriage with Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego just before she gave birth to their son and sought to keep the split outside the public view from the start."

However, the timing of Gallego's separation from his wife was already known before the court records were unsealed, so this is not new information.

Taken as a whole, the documents contain no explosive revelations.

"The ensuing documents shuttled between lawyers for both of them show no claim of infidelity or physical abuse in their marriage," reports the Arizona Republic. "Ruben Gallego has long attributed the December 2016 divorce to his post-traumatic stress disorder from serving in the Iraq War. In an interview with the Washington Post years ago, he acknowledged what he described as 'extreme outbursts.'"

What's more, the records show that Kate Gallego was similarly concerned about public disclosure about details of the couple's separation, as she and Ruben both worried about the impact such revelations would have on their son.

The Arizona Republic report also notes that Yavapai Superior Court Judge John Napper telegraphed earlier this year that the documents would not contain any scandalous information about Gallego.

“I’ve reviewed this entire file multiple times now. I think everyone’s going to be rather deflated with the results of it,” he said this past June. “This is a, well, I’m not a politician, and maybe this will be very, very important information. But this looks to me like one of the most garden-variety divorce files I have ever seen.”
