On MSNBC's "Morning Joe," NBC legal analyst Lisa Rubin questioned why Donald Trump's lawyers are fighting "tooth and nail" to block the release of documents submitted to Judge Tanya Chutkan by special counsel Jack Smith in the 2020 election interference case.

With the document dump expected on Friday, Rubin said she'd be surprised if there would be any new bombshells dropped and found it curious why Trump lawyers are in such a panic.

As CNN reported, Trump's legal team argued to Judge Chutkan, “the asymmetric release of charged allegations and related documents during early voting creates a concerning appearance of election interference," but the judge was unmoved.

Addressing questions from "Morning Joe" regular John Heilemann, Rubin told the panel, "They got their ruling last Thursday; they asked for more time to evaluate their litigation options. Then they waited until the 11th hour instead of getting a ruling from the appeals court, which they didn't have the ability to do."

"Their only real option was to ask Judge Chutkan as they did yesterday for a stay through November 14th," she continued. "Why are they fighting so hard if what we're about to see isn't really all that surprising? There's probably something in there that they don't want the voting public to know about or see in a more fulsome way."

She then added, "I'll be looking forward to flipping through the 1,600 plus pages later today."
