Three Daughters from Ozark Spring, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (Ozark Spring, NSDAR) opened up their travelling educational “Learning Trunk” May 7 for fourth and fifth grade students at Raymondville School.

The lessons included “experiential learning segments” on early U.S. history and its flag in preparation for the upcoming historical 250th anniversary celebration of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

According to America250.org, Inc. (https://america250.org) and the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission (Congressional-appointed committee), “on July 4, 2026, our nation will commemorate and celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The journey toward this historic milestone is an opportunity to pause and reflect on our nation’s past, honor the contributions of all Americans and look ahead toward the future we want to create for the next generation and beyond.”

Ozark Spring, NSDAR Daughters,  Mary Ann Mutrux, Cindy Pirch and Karen Ryburn designed and presented a lesson plan where fourth and fifth grade students learned about the nation’s early American Revolutionary events that formed the country, how the nation’s founders drafted the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution and the significance of the American flag’s origin, colors and code.

“Learning Trunk” activities included making bookmarks, utilizing an Earth model and world map to identify the nation’s territory and drafting timelines that connected the country’s birthday to their own birthdays, complete with cupcakes.

Each student received a patriotic learning packet to take home that included a copy of the U.S. Constitution, a U.S. flag, the flag code and a letter introducing the Daughters of the American Revolution and America250.org, Inc. initiatives.

A framed copy of the U.S. Constitution and children’s books relating to U.S. history were donated by Ozark Spring, NSDAR for the teachers’ use in their classrooms or inclusion in the school’s library.
