Dorthene Daisy Merckling, the daughter of Omer Brim and Oprha (Hubbs) Brim, was born Oct. 7, 1934 in Raymondville, Mo. After a long and meaningful life, Dorthene passed away June 24, 2024 surrounded by a family that absolutely adored her. She was 89 years old.

She lived in Raymondville for most of her life and often volunteered at or attended community events. Deemed the village “babysitter,” Dorthene was known to love on and babysit for many local children – she also worked at the Rawlings Factory in Licking, Mo. for many years. Attending church and loving Jesus was at the core of everything Dorthene did. She had fond memories of attending Friendship Church as a young girl. She was baptized and gave her life to Christ at an early age. In adulthood, she became a very involved member of Wildwood House of Prayer where she would bring her own family to learn about Jesus.

When she wasn’t at church, she loved to spend her days relaxing on her front porch and mowing her lawn. Her weekends were often filled with family trips, grandkids and garage sales – and if she had anything to say about it, a large Coke Zero from Sonic! Known for her life changing cinnamon rolls, Dorthene would often donate her delicious creations to community events where folks would try to be the highest bidder!

Being a mother and raising children that knew the lord was Dorthene’s greatest accomplishment.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Omer and Orpha Brim, an infant sister and her brother Leonard (Bud) Brim.

She is survived by her four daughters and their spouses: Coleen Harper (Mark Harper), Sandy Murray (Paul Murray), Debbie Schweighauser (Don Schweighauser), Peggy Turner (Mike Turner) and her sister Wanda Brim.

Also survived by her nine grandchildren, their spouses and her seventeen great-grandchildren: Chasity Siron (Jon Siron), Chelsey Sullins (Dustin Sullins), Dylan Schweighauser (Rachel Schweighauser), Ryan Harper (Felicia Harper), Devin Harper (Whitney Harper), PJ Murray (Ashley Murray), Dakota Murray (Mikayla Murray), Milissa Kovachik and Michael Turner (Melissa Turner).

Her great grandchildren include: Paisleigh and Beau Siron, Eleanor Daisy Sullins, Dale, Colten, and Brooklyn Harper, Bailey and Alora, Gabe Kovachik, Lacon and Demi Smith, Ryleigh and Peyton Murray, Harlow and Declan Murray, Skyler Kreitler, Reshea Civey.

    Great-great grandchild: Alba McKinney

While her family is already missing her, they find peace in knowing she’s in the arms of Jesus.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 27 at the Friendship Church with Pastor Paul Murray officiating. Interment was in the Friendship Cemetery. Services were under the care of Bradford Funeral Home and online condolences may be left at www.bradfordfuneralhome.net
